Wisdom teeth removal in Royal Oak
Planned on a 3D scan, and usually done in one visit.
We remove wisdom teeth in our Royal Oak office, including ones that are fully impacted in the bone, and we can usually take out all four in one visit. Every case is planned on our in-office 3D CBCT scan, so we know where the roots and the nerve are before we start. You can have nitrous or oral sedation. If a tooth sits very close to the nerve, a medical condition calls for it, or you'd rather be fully asleep with IV sedation, we'll refer you to an oral surgeon we trust.

What happens at your visit
- Exam and 3D scan
We check your x-rays and take a 3D CBCT scan in our office. It shows how each tooth sits and how close the roots are to the nerve, so we know whether all of them can come out here.
- Your plan
Before the day, you'll know which teeth are coming out, how long it takes, your comfort options and the cost.
- Removal day
You're completely numb, with nitrous or oral sedation if you'd like. Most people have all four out in one visit. With oral sedation, someone needs to drive you home.
- Recovery
You go home with gauze, written instructions and a number to call. Most people take two or three days easy and feel normal within about a week.
Cost and insurance
Insurance often pays part of wisdom tooth removal. The cost depends on how many teeth come out and how deeply they're impacted, so we'll give you a written estimate after your exam and 3D scan. See financing and insurance, or our membership plan if you don't have insurance.
Common questions
Do I need to see an oral surgeon?
Usually not. We remove most wisdom teeth here, including fully impacted ones. We refer to an oral surgeon we trust if a tooth sits very close to the nerve, if a medical condition makes it safer to have it done there, or if you want IV sedation.
Can you take all four out at once?
Yes, most of the time. One visit means one recovery.
Will I be asleep?
Not fully. Oral sedation leaves you relaxed and drowsy, and many people remember very little of it. If you want to be completely asleep, that's IV sedation, and we'll refer you to an oral surgeon.
When should wisdom teeth come out?
When there's a reason, like pain, infection, decay, gum problems or a tooth that's stuck. We remove them from age 16 when there's a reason to. If there isn't one, we keep an eye on them at your checkups.
How long is recovery?
Two or three days of swelling and soreness for most people, and about a week to feel completely normal. Soft food, ice and rest do most of the work.
My teen needs them out. What do I need to know?
For patients under 18, a parent or legal guardian gives consent. If your teen has oral sedation, plan to drive them home and stay with them for the rest of the day.
